WELCOME
to Waitaki Girls' High School
Waitaki Girls' High School is a
state secondary school for girls founded in 1887 and located in
Oamaru in the South Island of New Zealand. We have a roll of
about 410 girls including a good number of international students.
 |
We offer a wide range
of subjects, both academic and vocational, and our
students achieve excellent results in national
examinations. Students can enjoy a wide range of sports
and cultural activities including interhouse sports,
choir and drama competitions.
|
The school is located in
beautiful grounds surrounded by well established trees and
gardens.
Accommodation is available for
boarders in Waitaki House which adjoins the school. Hostel
staff are highly experienced and provide excellent care for our
boarders. Our hostel roll has historically been about 10% of our
school roll.
We hope you will enjoy finding out more about the school as you
explore our website. Please
contact us if there is more
information you require.

Advanced Notice:
Dr Kerry Swanson from the department of Geology,
University of Canterbury will give his amazing 3-D presentation
to Oamaru high school students and teachers on the 30th May 2012
at 4pm in the Waitaki Boys’ High School Auditorium. We would
like to extend this invitation to all students, staff and
families.
His incredible images are taken with a 3D electron microscope
and offer a rare glimpse into the microscopic world. (See link:
http://www.outreach.canterbury.ac.nz/swanson.shtml ). The
audience wears 3-D glasses and Kerry’s assumes no previous
knowledge and he is an enthusiastic and captivating speaker. He
has been working with Science Outreach for years and knows how
to engage an audience.
This is a great opportunity especially for students and staff
interested in science. Art students might also find it
inspirational as the images are amazing, and Kerry will be
mentioning how Science and Art can sometimes blend together.
